September 8, 2009 | NetWitness® Hosts Third Annual ‘Ride for the Kids’ Charity Event

Proceeds from the Motorcycle Ride and Barbeque Benefit the Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia

HERNDON, VA – September 8, 2009 – NetWitness Corporation, the leading provider of next generation network monitoring and threat analysis solutions, will hold its Third Annual NetWitness Ride for the Kids’ charity fundraiser to take place this coming Saturday, September 12, 2009. This year’s charity event will benefit the Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia (DSANV).

The annual motorcycle ride kicks off at Bob Evans Restaurant in Chantilly, Va. where participants will ride through historic Northern Virginia, and ends at Algonkian Regional Park in Sterling, VA. for a family barbeque. Non-riders interested in supporting the Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia also are strongly encouraged to attend the barbeque, which begins at noon, and includes music, prizes and games.

The mission of the DSANV is to ensure that all individuals with Down syndrome and their families receive the support necessary to participate in, contribute to and achieve fulfillment of life in their community. The organization helps families adjust to the birth of a child with Down syndrome; provides individuals with Down syndrome and their families with educational, financial, medical, legal and social support and resources; provides social and educational events for individuals with Down syndrome and their families to meet, interact and learn; increases community awareness of the capabilities and contributions of individuals with Down syndrome; provides financial support to families in need with donations of durable medical equipment, educational toys and similar items; and supports local organizations that provide services to individuals with Down syndrome.

This year's charity was selected in support of Cisco Ramirez, and his daughter, Yohanna Ariel Ramirez. Yohanna was diagnosed with Down Syndrome at birth and is now two years old and getting ready to start school. “When Yohanna was born, we turned to the Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia for support and to better understand how to best care for our daughter,” said Cisco Ramirez. “The organization’s personal involvement and commitment to helping our family has been incredible these past few years.”

Over the past two years, the NetWitness Ride for the Kids events have raised nearly $50,000 to benefit children with Opsoclonus-Myoclonus Syndrome (OMS), a rare neurological disorder, and Fragile X, a family of genetic conditions which are the largest known cause of autism.

“We are thrilled that NetWitness has partnered with us on their Ride for the Kids charity event this year,” said Phil Pedlikin, President of the Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia. “Approximately 5,000 children are born with Down Syndrome in the U.S. every year and these families need a strong support system to overcome the many challenges before them. Our mission is to help those families in any way we can to lead normal lives and offer them the resources they need to do exactly that.”
